And we're back!
Hi Everyone, I’m back to feeling normal again after a bout of illness. Not too sure what it was, I had 3 lateral flow tests which all came back negative so couldn’t have been Covid, I have been going to the gym a lot more recently as I’m trying to hit the weight that will enable me to do my charity skydive! note to anyone else, you have to be under 16 stone (sorry for using imperial) with clothes on to jump. Very psych heavy this week, might be influenced by having time to reflect whilst not being able to get out of bed but as always take out of it what you can, and hopefully, it will at least give you pause for thought. Right on to the top ten…
The Top Ten Of The Week
Something that can be lost when we seek to improve players so much is the opportunity to connect on a personal level and improve the person we coach as well as the player
Have you created an environment of psychological safety, are your players able to admit mistakes, disagree, bring ideas, etc. We like to control so much that I can see this not being present in coaching, especially for those starting out.
Check out this infographic from Eric Laurie on his principles for each phase of possession. What would yours look like? Could you create one for your players to have?
A long but worthy read looking into talent development. The Article outlines that copy and pasting from a successful model is ideal due to the culture and context of where that model was successful. The article recommends creating your own that is closely aligned to the culture and context of your own environment.
A snippet of a talk Huddlesfield town football club gave on a Training Ground Guru Webinar about how they use Idividual player development plans to help align playing style and coaching across the club.
An interesting article here on conditioning players for football fitness. Some key points from the article, to train maximal speed use big pitches with 8v8 up to full side games but for agility use smaller pitches with 4v4 and 5v5. Use 1v1 and 2v2 to improve power/speed and repeated sprints respectively.

Great content alert. New Byern coach Julian Nagelsmanns princples of defending. Always interesting to read about how professional coaches set their principles. If you get stuck with the link in the tweet just hit the request button.
Mindset is such a powerful thing and I really like this from Daniel Abrahams. Accept or adapt. I'll be taking some of these for myself as well as my players.
More content from the prolific Eric Laurie. This time taking you through the False 9/strikerless system
The Soccer Resilience team interview Charlotte FC player Brandt Bronico on this routine for gameday. All very good (breathing, visualization, positive self-talk, and the right arousal, or as he calls it hype level) but one I'm not 100% which is a quick workout. I guess it's all about finding what works for the individual.
