Hi Everyone welcome to another edition of the Coach Insight newsletter. This week we have articles and links to being a great man-manager, giving great feedback, building resilience in your players, and much more. Enjoy!
The Top Ten
Man management is one of the key components of being a great coach. This Article from Ben Welch takes you through the elements that are the secret to great man-management. https://thesetpieces.com/latest-posts/whats-secret-great-man-management/
The cutting edge coaching team here with a thread on maximising the time you have during sessions with your players. Do you agree? Is there anything missing that you think should be part of the list?
Geraint Davies with a thread on the observations he’s made as a spectator of his sons sports rather than as a coach as he usually is. I like this as it gives some perspective that sometimes can’t be seen from coaches as we’re too deep into everything to “come up for air”.
Another thread, I realise this edition is a bit thread heavy but again some things to think about from Radoslaw Bella. The point I took most from the thread is “Remember that the best players are distinguished by efficiency, not the way they do it. Players have to adapt their actions to the orders of the game, not to the orders of the coaches!” Why did this stand out for me, well, we always want our players to have the perfect technique but is the perfect technique correct for everyone.
A thread on feedback from Chris Oliver with some wonderful insights. From the specificity of the feedback given, how good isn’t good enough as feedback and more. The thread
“Good” is one of the most common words at practices, and one of the most useless. We all overuse words like "good" in our coaching. @DougLemov and I discussed words like good in our #thebasketballpodcast but I wanted to share more thoughts in this thread. link.chtbl.com/douglemovWant to help your team with 1v1 defending? Lastly a few inspirational words from the Eintracht Frankfurt coach.
Eintracht Frankfurt coach, Europa L. winner & Super Cup participant visited us at the Academy. Regardless of these achievements, he has remained a grounded & authentic person. To be successful you don't need to be fake or copy others, be yourself and have fun with your work. 1/2Be convinced of your idea and inspire the desire for success in others. Work hard, treat your employees/colleagues with respect and honesty. Try to put the positive things of your players in the focus, don't confront them (only) with the negative situations. Stay humble! 2/2Thanks again for joining us. If you know anyone who is a coach, parent, or just loves learning about coaching then please share using the buttons below. Have a great weekend and week.
