Euro 2020 round up
Hi Everyone, thanks for joining us on another edition of the coach insight newsletter. This week you’ll notice a Euro 2020 theme running through but I wanted to have a few pieces that do a good job of round up some interesting points. You’ll also note a few articles from the FA bootroom but again they’ve done a great job of highlighting some interesting themes from the tournament. I hope you enjoy it.
The Top Ten Of The Week
Have a look at the first picture of this tweet. the England goalkeeper coaching team has come up with three categories of practice and how they affect decision making. I think this is an interesting way to label the sessions. have you ever thought of your practices in this way?
one form the FA bootroom for those coaching at the foundation age, although as I always say, anything at foundation phase can be used in any phase, for older players they tend to be a bit of fun.

Continuing on the Euro 2020 analysis theme, here the FA bootroom goes through trends in possession. Key themes here are combinations in wide areas, playing with a narrow front three, and security behind the ball.

Last one from the FA bootroom, this time the Euro 2020 trends out of possession. Themes here are center-backs defending in midfield areas, being compact in central areas, and the role of wing-back.

Macca has created some positional infographics of skills and attributes for players in those positions. first off he has the goalkeeper. what do you think? anything missing? I personally think it depends on how you want to play but they are a good starting point.
Have a listen to this podcast from the modern soccer coach team. They have an interview with former Chelsea Academy coach Harry Waitling. Always good to hear from coaches working in the Chelsea academy, they are currently one of the most productive academies in England and have probably been so for a few years now.
Been shared around before but always good to get a reminder on the principles everyone who plays Rugby for New Zealand’s All Blacks has to adhere to. Do you have a list of principles that direct your club’s culture?
Want a session on improving your team finishing ability, have a look at an article from David Selini. some interesting points and practices here.
Have a possession-based team who are looking to help your center-backs progress the ball better especially vertically? Well, have a look at this thread by Jamie Scott.
Thanks again for joining us this week, I hope it’s given you some interesting points to think through and some to apply to your coaching/sessions. Feel free to share our newsletter with anyone who you feel would benefit. Have a great weekend and week.
