Exiting Lockdown
Hi everyone, welcome to another edition of Top Ten of The Week. We’ve had wonderful news here in the UK of our lockdown exit roadmap. For those working below the national league and grassroots, it means a welcome return to being back out with players and doing the thing we’ve all enjoy the most, maybe something we used to take for granted? The FA has released their statement and plans, as shown in one of my top ten. I’ve also seen a lot of talk on the first sessions back, what they should involve and why. I’ll be personally making it as fun as possible. Everyone has missed, playing, socialising, and just being out doing the thing we love. The serious sessions can wait another week. That’s my opinion but what’s yours? what will you be doing that first week/session back?
Right on to the top ten!

If you live in England then here's the FA's release on the government announcement on the roadmap to getting the country back to some level of normality
As we all edge closer to group sessions (1 to 1 sessions have been allowed in the Uk for this 3rd lockdown), do you know how you're going to create an environment that is both safe and fun? A little help from UK Coaching on the things to be planning.
I always talk about it but it's such a great resource of information. Another good video from the FA Learning YouTube channel, this time on the low block and emergency defending
Carlo Ancelotti is one of the best in the game. With his man-management his most renowned skill. The framing of fear and worry is brilliant here. How do you help your players overcome the mental/psych side of the game as well as the technical and tactical?
If you get a chance please listen to this podcast from Robbie Savage and Matthew Syed featuring Tony Whealen, Man Utd academy program adviser. Talking through the story of Ravel Morrison. Probably one of the most talented players to ever grace the Man Utd academy but didn't get to where his talents should have taken him. this again just proves the point of talent development and how as coaches we have to concentrate on the person as much as the player we work with
Dan Abrahams talking through systems to help control behaviours. He's aimed this at us coaches helping players but I also think the points are very important for us to use as well. Do you have a clear set of values, goals, identity, and process?
Ever wanted to know the principles of World-class coach Marcelo Bielsa? Well here's a link to his "ten commandments"
I'm a massive fan of psychology, behavioural economics, and human decision making in general. We make decisions every single day and so much of our world and our thought patterns determine what we do, being in control of the decision-making process can be one of the most important things you can learn. Here is an article that can help you get better at making smarter decisions.
Video from Carl Carpenter about working through the press and creating space for your center backs
A mini thread by Kavanagh giving a visual representation of what John Stones is talking about. Sometimes seeing can help you understand more than just an explanation.
