Guest Takeover Part 2
Hi Everyone,
Continuing on from last week, Peter Prickett is going to take us through his top 5 YouTube videos to watch. A reminder that Peter is an FA affiliate tutor with a decade of experience coaching with various organisations. He was one of the first coaches in England to obtain the UEFA B Futsal qualification. Peter is currently studying for a Masters in Performance Football Coaching.
He’s written two books (click the link to check them out) called Developing Skill: A Guide to 3v3 Soccer Coachingand Developing Skill 2: A Guide to 3v3 Soccer Coaching. The am of both books is to help coaches develop environments in which players can express themselves creatively while learning implicitly and to give the players a platform upon which they can play.
Peter’s top 5 YouTube videos to watch
The first is the legendary coach Johan Cryuff explaining his diamond formation.
Johan Cryuff again but this time expanding to talk about his 3-4-3 formation.
This time it’s Thierry Henry talking about one of his super strengths. Finishing at speed.
One to help with your players about off the ball movement. This time it’s Alexis Sanchez (from his barca days) to show off his skill set.
This time a video showing one of Guardiolas Rondos from his Bayern days. the video explains the how and why this is such an effective exercise.
Thanks again to Peter for his wonderful insight. So great videos to start and explore more. Now on to the normal top 10
Top 10 of the week
Great article here on how your language can affect a players learning.
I really like this from Luke Cooper about the questions that need to be answered when planning for game realistic sessions? What questions do you ask about your sessions whilst planning them?
YouTube video here about asking effective questions to guide players rather than prescribing to them.
Coaches. Do yourselves & your players a favor & go check out the full replay of yesterday’s presentation from @etcconsultants⬇️ 📺:youtu.be/_mnNpOVlezQ Sarah shared some truly incredible insight into the art of asking effective questions🔥🤯 #BP2020=15% off @MiMentorOnlineInteresting article from Yiannis about differential learning. It’s an interesting methodology that is employed by PSGs coach Thomas Tuchel. It’s one you may have to read 2 or 3 times to make sense but it’s definitely interesting and something that could challenge your team.
“We do not train in loops, instead we create conditions that are unusual for them with the idea of finding out which player can find a solution within a given difficult situation” Thomas Tuchel dropbox.com/s/du90wbr17byi…Know your terrain https://t.co/7hW9Gp4L5cYT @Yiannis_TsalaNice article from rugby side harlequins. We’ll definitely see this catching on in more sports. Hopefully football won’t be too far behind as rugby has always been more receptive to new ideas. Have you asked your players how they’re feeling both physically and mentally recently?
Interesting article here. Academy kids from 8 or street/grassroots football until early teens. It’s hard to say but either way players need room to experiment, make mistakes and find their own solutions.
Dan Abraham’s on the fact that as a coach you can’t and possibly shouldn’t be trying to please everyone.
I’ve always been brought up with keep your hands off your hips and stand up straight when trying to take in more air after heavy exertion exercise. Apparently this is now wrong. Advice for your players when in the same position.
Do you actively coach scanning? Scanning in football is often referred to as looking around you 10 seconds prior to receiving the ball. Good article shows the benefits and who does it well in the professional game.
Nice graphic here from like about defending the horizontal thirds and also defending vertically. Take this as a general rule as it would need to be adjusted to opposition strengths & weaknesses as well as your own teams.
Thanks again for joining me. Please keep your feedback coming in. The more resources I have to go through the more diverse the content for everyone. Have a great week ahead. any comments then let me know https://twitter.com/ACharlesFoster
