Have your players come back fitter or less fit post lock down?
Hi Everyone,
Another week down, have you started coaching yet? Or found out more about your leagues returns? I had some more great feedback from coaches. This time asking for more fitness related articles. I’ve tried my best to find them but it can be a little difficult as I want to give something more science based, especially when it comes to that type of activity, there can be a lot of sketchy exercises that aren’t age appropriate. I’ll keep searching and maybe even reach out to a couple of contacts at pro clubs to see if they have anything. Last chance to complete the survey on session planning if you haven’t had the chance yet. Anyway on to the top ten.
The Top Ten Of The Week
A small snippet from the talk given from Deasun O'Riain on Arsenals academy physical development framework.
Whilst weight training is generally mean't for the off season heree a study confirms the effect of 2 sessions of training a week during the season can have.
Has anyone ever tried this? do you think you could be silent for one whole game not saying anything. Could the parent do this? how would you players cope? I'd love to try this one day.
Have you talked to your players about what to do by going a player down, whether that be to a red card or injury and no subs.
Fascinating interview with Jessie Marsch (coach of Red Bull Salzburg) on how he creates his red bull environment.

As we go back into normal contact training here are some ideas from Peter Prickett from his 3v3 book https://twitter.com/PeterPrickett/status/1287325447454425088
I was really interested in this infographic from Dawn Scott now part of the FA but was part of th US womens national team set up that won the world cup last year. Essenttially injury risk increased after physical complaints from players. Whilst this may seem obvious, how many tiems have we seen coaches ask players to play through their niggles, are we doing enough to monitor wellness?
Does this change how we manage subjective self-reporting of physical complaints? This study found 68% of those complaints resulted in time loss injuries - how do you monitor wellness + what do you do with that information? Does it impact how you manage individual players? Our new paper now in press latest issue @SciMed_Football Do Niggles Matter? - Increased injury risk following physical complaints in football (soccer) https://t.co/MWwtbxbg9jJohn Sampson @jsampson77How do you help your players deal with a fear of failure? this article form Innerdrive sport Psych can help.
Good but long read from the team over at Spielverlagerung on designing and ocahing sessions fousing on numerically un-balanced teams (overloads). They note using this method can lead to players using novel individual and team tactical actions.
Love this story from Norway on how the first woman to coach a professional mens team is succeeding. Could we ever see this happen in the UK. A coach is a coach whether you're black, white, male, female, player professionally or not, how you communicate, develop players and ultimately create buy in to your game model is what matters most.
