New FIFA coaching resource
Hi Everyone, Welcome to another edition of the coach insight newsletter. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the video of the 6-year-old Liverpool academy player doing the rounds but it always upsets me when this happens. Why can’t we just let kids be kids let them develop their love for the game without any spotlight? I think we underestimate the mental health impact of this especially if this is all he becomes known for. If he then gets released his whole identity will be stripped away. I really think media outlets need to think about this before publishing stories like this. Admittedly he has 5.2 million views on his YouTube channel (which is crazy) but they don’t have to feed this even more! Anyway enough of me ranting and on to the top 10!
The Top Ten
FIFA has just launched their online academy resource, similar to the FA learning resource, here you'll find lots of articles and sessions on different sessions and methods. They allow you to search by theme, age group, etc. Definitely worth taking some time to go through.
There's always lots of debate into specialisation and generalisation of children playing sports. Do you keep them in one sport and help them get the depth of experience or let them play lots of sports and have a broad range of skills. Here the top tekkers team argues for the latter.

Infographic here from the coaching manual team on the types of sessions. Part method, carousel, progressive part method, and whole part whole method. Do you use one, more than one? let me know.
Nice video and then linked article from the England learning team on center backs stepping out into midfield areas. Do you encourage your defenders to do the same? want to start. Well, here they will take you through the advantages of doing just that.
The coachmaker team here making a case for more session repetitions. How often do you repeat a session if at all? do you work in cycles of 4, 8, or 12 weeks?

Mindful football guru Slawek Morawski here asking questions about creating football intelligence in players and how to create sessions to encourage it. you'll find a link to his free e-book.
What are the six things that make players good at intercepting the ball? Scanning, timing, movement, decision making, deception, technique. missing anything? read the breakdown here from the FA

Always a big question for me. how much should we concentrate on the tactical side of the game? Well, the Player Development Project team has come up with some useful things to think about when deciding on what's right for your team.

Want to help your players understand how to play as an attacking midfielder? well, the coaching manual team has a nice infographic for you.
Eric Laurie is a great resource for content and this time he has teamed up with the TIFO team to put together a short video on the 10 phases of the game. Let me know what you think? Is he correct or is it too complex?
Absolute pleasure to get a chance to work @TifoFootball_ on this video. 10 phases of the game explained by myself, and illustrated by @fennertown:
