Surprise Guest....
Hi Everyone,
Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to be handing over to a very welcome guest who’ll be sharing with you his top coaching content he’s found. You’ll still get the usually top 10 from me but then you’ll get some bonus content too!
My first guest takeover comes from Peter Prickett. Peter is an FA affiliate tutor with a decade of experience coaching with various organisations. He was one of the first coaches in England to obtain the UEFA B Futsal qualification. Peter is currently studying for a Masters in Performance Football Coaching.
He’s written two books (click the link to check them out) called Developing Skill: A Guide to 3v3 Soccer Coaching and Developing Skill 2: A Guide to 3v3 Soccer Coaching. The am of both books is to help coaches develop environments in which players can express themselves creatively while learning implicitly and to give the players a pltform upon which they can play.
Here are Peter’s top 5 practices from Developing Skill 2.
Thanks again to Peter you can follow him on Twitter. He’ll return next week with the top 5 YouTube videos to watch as a coach.
The normal top 10 below
Top 10 of the week
An interesting Article about development coaches. I remember Rene muelensteen at Man Utd whose credited with helping C.Ronaldo improve. Interesting part about the “2nd learning phase” in 18-22 Year olds similar to early years learning.
When designing your sessions what do you try to create. Gerard Jones quotes from a study here.
Dan Abraham’s talking about thinking in football. Something I may write a few longer form pieces about later.
The Health Minister Matt Hancock answering Robbie Savages question on when Grassroots football can resume.
England rugby coach Eddie Jones on the training ground gurus podcast talking about coaching leadership and life. He’s a massive advocate for giving players leadership responsibilities of the group.
Kevin Nicholson commenting on the Art of scanning. Have you been able to incorporate scanning exercises into you sessions?
Great post from mark on how AIK in Sweden have changed the way they view youth football and young players. There’s a lot of talk at the moment about changes to how youth football should be run.
I love this question from Tom Hartley. It’s really important to self-reflect to improve.
Interesting article on how to develop your coach player relationship.
Webinar on YouTube from The Dutch FA on building an evidence based youth development programme. Lots to think about especially the fact the development is non-linear.
“Building an Evidence-based youth development programme” ⚽️🇳🇱💪🏼 Ask questions & question things that seems so common, like f.i. the system. What are the returns? Look beyond the outcomes a/t peak. It’s all about opportunities! Thanks 🙏🏼@MSAIreland ⤵️ youtube.com/watch?v=DVTXzN…Thanks again for reading, I hope you get lots out of it like me. Keep your feedback coming in as it helps me to tailor the content you want to see. If you liked this the feel free to share this post and the newletter itself. Have a great week.
