Understanding the "Process"
Hi Everyone, Welcome to another edition of the Coach Insight newsletter bringing you the Top Ten find of the week. Letβs get straight into itβ¦
A really good thread here by Steve Magness on understanding "the process". The thing you'll hear lots of people talking about but maybe not totally understand.
A very short but honest and important blog on work-life balance in professional football. Whilst I know not everyone who reads this works in professional football, however, being a volunteer can sometimes be even worse, our passion can sometimes lead us to unhealthy choices. How can we be our best if we don't allow ourselves to take a break
The Training Ground Guru with another top article, this time talking with Man Utd coach Martyn Pert on how languages have helped him on his coaching journey. He traveled around South America to learn Spanish, which is possible for everyone, however, that drive to connect with lots of people ultimately landed him the job at MUFC.
Ever heard of the cover shadow? I know there seem to be lots of football jargon around but itβs an important concept that you may know by another name. Here Tobias Hahn explains the details.
Another Tobias thread but this time on pressing triggers.
After every tournament Uefa and FIFA (dependent on the tournament) will release their technical report. Well the EURO 2020 Report has just been released. Take a look through some of the key trends and developments from the tournament.
The training Ground Guru has pulled something from the UEFA technical report on the EUROs around the new type of midfielder (i personally don't think it's new) the deep-lying midfielder (their example is Jorginho). Do we allow our best technical players to play in that position and take on our role? It's something that in England, we have always struggled to produce, but why?

An interesting study looking into how words of encouragement from the coach affect either the physical or mental load of players. Spoiler alert, it affects the mental but not physical. Back to the importance of communication mentioned last week. Are your words enabling higher performance or inhibiting it?
Have a listen to this podcast on Resilience, Resetting, and Retraining our Brains with Brad Miller, Founder of Soccer Resilience. He outlines some good points and strategies to help your players with their mental resilience.

One from one of my favorite people on Twitter, Carlon Carpenter, outlining how to generate vertical passing lanes. Very important for teams trying to penetrate defenses and create opportunities to gain territory.
Thatβs all for this week. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed doing the research. As always if you know anyone who would enjoy the content then please share using the buttons below. Have a great weekend and week.
